A walk through Alte-Algarve-Portugal-second part
We are now on the way to through the village to the fountain and the river ...all along little streets are branching off... some of the houses have a metal grill standing in front of the door.It is typically used in Portugal to grill fresh sardines in summer..to everyone´s delight...

At the eastern end of Alte are the springs (fontes) for which Alte is well known. The area around Fonte Pequena (little spring) is picturesque...a bridge across the stream, the beginning of a series of waterfalls as the water flows down the hillside, a grassy area on the banks ideal for picnicking, and ducks making the most of the waters and the sunshine!

There is a pretty, paved, garden area in front of the 'Fonte Pequena Inn' dedicated to Alte's famous poet, Cândido Guerreiro..there are tiled plaques on the wall with some of the poet's works on.Here the springs...

A walk through Alte-Algarve-Portugal
A friend of mine wo is making mirrors of shells and driftwood took me with her to visit Alte, a beautiful dreamy little village in typical Algarve style....
***
***
Alte is a typical village of whitewashed houses with lattice work, handcrafted chimneys and narrow, cobbled streets nestling in the foothills of the Serra do Caldeirão.
***
The church is at the centre of the village, and there are numerous little cafes in the surrounding area, to relax at and soak up the tranquility of the village.

Songs of Freedom-Lagos
He used to be a bank employee for many years of his life until one day he decided to step out into freedom and light.Didier travels like the minstrels of medieval times without luggage or other baggage than his music and his smile. He travels on trains for a song and sometimes hitches a ride for a smile.
He sings of clear skies and cristal waters,of love and waves of light. He makes up melodies and words telling you stories of his inner and outer travels....
Free like a bird he comes and goes as he likes and sometimes travels for hundreds of miles following only his heart and inspiration...
He is like a breath of cool wind ,a ray of unconditional love,he likes what he has and does not want more,he truly follows his dream .....
Dancing with the waves and following the stars...
Didier ,I hope to meet you again.....

Spring Storm-Lagos
There has been quite a strong wind for a few days ..the waves were crowned with foam as far as one could see.
Boats for viewing the famous grottos or the dolphins were unable to go out and only very few fishing boats tried to brave the powerful Atlantic ocean.
Most spectacular were the waves around the old fort build in the late 17th century as a defence against the British Fleet led in those days by Sir Francis Drake.

It is also known as the Forte do Pau da Bandeira or the Forte de Nossa Senhora da Penha de França on the waterfront near the entrance to the harbour. The stone inscription over the main door indicates that it was originally dedicated to Santa Virgem Senhora da Penha de França—whence one of its names; "Ponta da Bandeira" (or "Pau da Bandeira") are names of the area of Lagos where it actually stands.
It is one of my favourite landmarks ....

Walking along the cliffs-Lagos
Walking along the cliffs can be risky because of rock and earth slides...so you have to watch your step..

.it can also be full of surprises like stumbling on the bench made of painted tiles in a small grove at the beginning of the walk....or the flowers covered with drops of dew ..like jewels...

A glimpse of Istanbul
Istanbul is a city of many faces between Asia and Europe ,between old and new...
....these photos refer to my stay in a part of the old town,in the neighbourhood of the shoemakers. There were also many wholesale export shops with the most fashionable shoes but I was not allowed to take photos.
The paintings are from the lobbies of two hotels and reflect some of the old ways of life and the dream we had about oriental life style.
My stay was in october so there was a bit of an autumn mood about the place..in fact it started raining after a short while...

Barnacles
Barnacles are crustaceans that have jointed legs
and shells of connected overlapping plates. Instead of crawling
after food, they glue themselves to rocks, ships, pillings, abalones,
and maybe even whales and wait for food to wash by. ....
Sometimes if one looks carefully there is beauty in small things....

The old fishing Harbour-Lagos
Lagos,in the western Algarve,is full of historical interest with it's
origins dating as far back as 2000 years BC when it was known as
Lacobriga.
Lagos has always had a seafaring connection, originally
visited by Phoenicians and Carthaginians and then, during the 15th
century, was the base for the 'voyages of the Discoveries' instigated by
Henry the Navigator when trade between Africa and Portugal brought a
great deal of wealth into the town.
Today there is only the Marina with its many private Yachts and the old fishing harbour....and yet the salty smell and wind evoke the feeling of freedom and far away lands.

Give me shelter-Donne moi un abri- India
When I met Oezgur Baba in a small Teashop in Pushkar there was a lively chirping coming from his beard.
When I asked him about it he showed me his little bird....
He had found it slightly wounded in the street and had picked it up.After a while of resting in his hand the little bird hopped up his arm ..onto his shoulder..and then found shelter in Oezgur Baba's beautiful beard.
After a few hours when he had rested sufficiently the little bird flew away....

In december the weather is not cold but soft and rainy like a northern European spring..
No tourists at this time....
But a wonderfully peaceful environment.
As you see I have decided to come back and continue this blog with messages from different places and horizons and in English only..due to lack of time....hope the photos speak for themselves.
